Five Years Later DJ Seinfeld Finally Let This One Go

DJ Seinfeld began writing 'If This Is It' the week his acclaimed 2021 record Mirrors was released. That is not a typo. He finished one album and immediately started the next one. Then spent five years talking himself out of it, back into it, and back out again. A million ideas turned into a few, a few turned into no ideas at all, and no ideas eventually turned into one. That one idea became a 12 track album that drops June 5 on Ninja Tune and already sounds like one of the most emotionally complete house records of the year.

If This Is It is DJ Seinfeld's third studio album. It spans 12 tracks and explores themes of acceptance, reflection, and living in the present. It moves across house, trance, Italo and more, with vocal contributions from TS Graye, ARY, Moyka, just lil, SG Lewis, and rapper Dan Whitlam. For a record that almost never got made, it sounds remarkably sure of itself.

What It Is About

The album centres on a theme that has shaped the producer's life and work since childhood: a persistent sense of restlessness. As a touring DJ, the tension between wanting to be elsewhere and struggling to settle in the present has become a defining experience. He describes being on holiday as a kid and immediately wanting to go home. Then going home and immediately wanting to be somewhere else. Now he does that professionally across every continent and somehow turned it into music.

If This Is It is about reflecting on the past without dwelling in it, and finding harmony in restlessness. Through writing it he tried to turn long held anxieties into acceptance. Which sounds heavy on paper and sounds like a really good house record when you press play. That balance is the whole point of DJ Seinfeld. The feelings are real. The music makes them move.

The Singles So Far

Three tracks are already out and each one makes a different argument for what the album is going to be.

'U Can't Come Home' came first. TS Graye's velvety vocal and dusty voicemail float on swirling synths and keys like a cloud. It sets the emotional temperature of the whole album immediately. You know exactly what kind of record this is going to be within the first thirty seconds and you are already in.

'Everything U followed'. A track built on longing that grows into a club focused skipping beat. The transition from introspective to dancefloor in that track is the DJ Seinfeld signature move done at its best. The feeling stays the same. The tempo just finds its feet.

Then the title track arrived with Dan Whitlam. Built around hopeful piano chords and a spoken word feature from rapper and spoken word artist Dan Whitlam, 'If This Is It' gradually unfolds into a nostalgic house groove that balances emotional reflection with dancefloor momentum. Whitlam's verses sit against warm synth textures and evolving rhythms and somehow the whole thing feels like the last hour of a very good night. The sun is not quite up yet. Nobody wants to leave.

Twelve tracks. Six collaborators. Confidence Man on track three is the one that is going to get played at every festival this summer and everyone in the crowd is going to think they discovered it themselves. SG Lewis on Something That I've Never Known near the end is the album's emotional peak and it has not even come out yet. The Lake Erie Mix closing the whole thing out is either going to be the most beautiful version of the title track or the one that makes you want to start the album over from the beginning. Possibly both.

The London Playback Already Sold Out

DJ Seinfeld is hosting an exclusive album playback party on May 19 at Bambi in east London. Guests will be greeted with drinks and food inspired by the album during a playback of the record before a Q and A and DJ sets to close out the night. It sold out before most people knew it was happening. Which is exactly the kind of thing that happens when you have been building a fanbase quietly and carefully for nine years and then announce something they have been waiting for.
