A Taiwanese politician once yelled "Over my dead body!" on the evening news, and a producer in Taipei liked the sound of it enough to misquote it into a label name. Five years later, that label is one of the more interesting things coming out of Taiwan's underground, and it marked the anniversary with an 11-track compilation of artists it had never released before.

Over My Body launched in Taipei in the middle of the pandemic, founded by producer and DJ B E N N, who also masters most of what the label puts out. The name, he told Mixmag Asia, was never meant to sound serious: part political TV moment, part description of what it feels like to lose yourself on a dancefloor and not care who's stepping over you. The sound he built around it is harder to joke about. Over My Body deals in what B E N N calls "destructive, deconstructed, futuristic club music," the kind that doesn't have an obvious home on a festival poster.

Eleven Strangers, One Record

Koma Vol. 2 is built around what B E N N calls "the unknown and exploration": every producer on it is working with Over My Body for the first time. The tracklist moves from deconstructed club and heavy-bass Latin electronics through to Gorge, with Olor Acre, Luxixi, noRecall, Sanjonas, Sepbtt and Entrañas alongside Japanese producer Titaniüm, whose percussion-driven '酔象' draws on Japan's underground Gorge scene. Two young Taiwanese producers get featured slots, MOXINA with 'Scorch' and XAN with 'Burnout', and the record closes with 'Inner Mechanics', a live-recorded collaboration between B E N N and Swiss artist Spirit Vortex Club, recorded live at a Lausanne studio. Taiwanese artists are still a minority on the roster, B E N N says; most of it is international, mostly through demos sent in cold rather than scouting.

Small Market, Scant Support

B E N N doesn't dress up what's holding the scene back. Taiwan's experimental club music was, in his words, "basically underground within the underground" when he started, with FINAL, one of Taipei's longest-running rooms for leftfield sound, doing most of the work of building an audience alone. More Taiwanese producers are getting picked up by overseas labels now, he says, and the internet has done more for visibility than any local institution has. What hasn't changed: "the small market size and the lack of government attention are still the main factors holding us back."

What's Next

B E N N spent the last two years mostly off the party circuit, focused on production after an early-2026 EU tour, during which he worked on new tracks with Tokyo vocalist unjuicy and Switzerland's Sami Galbi. That's about to change. Before the end of the year, Over My Body will release a remix compilation and throw a collaborative event in Taipei with local promoters Tearspa and SlippedDisk Records, tied to what B E N N describes only as "a major platform from the UK." Next year, he's planning a debut album and a new live set. For now, Koma Vol. 2 is streaming on Bandcamp, and B E N N's own mix of the label's catalogue is up on Mixmag Asia's SoundCloud.
