Berlin BKK Put Bangkok's Newest Techno Room on the Fifth Floor of a Japanese Discount Store

Bangkok's techno scene keeps colonizing buildings nobody designed for it. The latest is the fifth floor of a Donki discount mall in Ekkamai, where Berlin BKK runs hard techno past the instant noodles.

Bangkok's techno crowd has raved in a hi-fi audiophile bar and a 137-year-old mansion this year alone. The newest room doesn't even try to disguise its location: fifth floor, Donki Mall, Ekkamai, past the instant noodles and the discounted skincare.

Venue: Berlin BKK, 5th Fl, Donki Mall, Ekkamai, Bangkok / Nights: Friday and Saturday, weekly to bi-weekly / Entry: 300-500 THB / Getting there: 5 minutes on foot from BTS Ekkamai

A discount store with a dance floor on top

Donki, the Japanese "Don Quijote" chain, built its Southeast Asian expansion on cheap snacks, novelty merchandise and the specific thrill of finding something you didn't know you needed at 2 AM. Ekkamai's branch now has a fifth-floor tenant doing the same thing for techno. Berlin BKK opened in 2026 sharing its address with MUIN Bangkok, and it picked the one part of the name that needed no translation: the room is built around Berlin's underground reputation, hard techno on the system and a large dance floor that doesn't pretend to be anything else.

It's a strange pairing on paper and it mostly works in practice, because nobody expects a shopping mall's top floor to hold a real club, which is exactly the point. Bangkok's techno rooms keep turning up in buildings designed for something else. Clutch built its museum-grade hi-fi system into a bar before letting RomRom rave in it a few nights a year. Kangkao spent four years inside a space that DUAL now runs most weekends. A shopping mall is just the latest building to get repurposed after hours.

Berlin in name, Bangkok in practice

Berlin BKK doesn't publish a resident list or lineup anywhere public, and nobody answered a request for one in time for this piece. What's verifiable is the sound: hard techno, pushed loud, with peak hours landing where you'd expect, 1 to 3 AM, long after the mall downstairs has pulled its shutters.

The room itself photographs like it means it. A domed ceiling catches the lighting rig in red and throws it back over a packed floor; on other nights it runs cold blue, with laser lines cutting straight through the smoke machine. Pioneer gear at the booth, a proper sub stack, and a crowd that skews mixed: local ravers next to the expats who'll tell you, unprompted, that this is the closest thing Bangkok has to a Berghain substitute. Whether that comparison survives a second visit is a different question, and one this venue hasn't been open long enough to answer.

What it actually costs

Entry runs 300 to 500 THB, and the dress code is casual, whatever you walked in wearing. Beer sits around 180 baht, a cocktail closer to 300, and the venue takes cash, cards and PromptPay, which puts it in line with most of Bangkok's mid-tier club economy rather than the premium end Thonglor usually charges for a Friday night. There's no stated capacity on the venue's own listings, and the floor in the photos looks full enough that asking probably wouldn't get you a straight answer anyway.

Worth the fifth floor

Nobody has confirmed who actually runs Berlin BKK. No press release, no interview, no RA profile with a promoter's name attached, just an Instagram account and a bangkok-nights.com listing that reads like it was built from the venue's own photos. That's thin for a club asking to be taken seriously on Berlin's reputation, and it's worth saying plainly: a name alone doesn't earn the comparison.

What it does have is a real room, a real crowd, and a location odd enough to be worth the walk past the discount shelves. Ekkamai's clubs keep multiplying inside buildings nobody built for them. Berlin BKK posts its next date on Instagram at @berlinbkk, with doors at 10:30 PM on the nights it runs.
