Hong Kong's borders were basically shut during the pandemic, and that's exactly when its bass scene took off. "The bass scene here took off during Covid because the borders were basically shut but we had minimal lockdowns internally," is how the crew behind Feed the Dragon puts it, the Hong Kong party collective that launched in January 2023. On October 24, 2026, that crew welcomes guests from Seoul's Planet Turbo for an all-vinyl night.

Magical Disc Adventure takes over Social Room in Central on October 24, 9PM to 5AM, all vinyl, all night, covering UK garage, jungle, drum'n'bass, 140 and dubstep. The lineup pairs Hong Kong talent with guests from Seoul's Planet Turbo: DJ FU, Haney Lee, ILLI, Mengzy, Shins and whosseany. DJ Fu leads a two-hour set through jungle and D&B, Shins works UKG and jungle, and Haney Lee digs into 140 and jungle. Mengzy, ILLI and whosseany round out the night with dubstep, D&B, breaks and beats.

Three Years Deep

Feed the Dragon's founding four, Mengzy, DJ Fu, Hocknell and Justin Lim, describe their ethos simply: "building community and infrastructure." The family has since grown to include resident photographer Jake Aaron Morton and resident DJs like MMEE, and the collective pulls from a multicultural crew, Chinese, British, Singaporean, Dutch, Malaysian, that it says guides its decisions "on a DNA-basis."

About a year into throwing parties, the crew started a label. The first release, 'Headtop' featuring Killa P, came from resident producer MMEE; the next, FTD002, pairs two up-and-coming Japanese producers, Azumai and Vecsille, marking the latter's first official release. In April, Feed the Dragon runs the official Hong Kong launch party for Outlook Festival, for the third year in a row.

Their first international exchange was with Planet Turbo in Seoul. Hong Kong's crew went on to play Cakeshop Seoul themselves, as part of that exchange. For Magical Disc Adventure, expect deep cuts and records turned up crate-digging across Seoul, London and Amsterdam.
