999999999 Headline BLAK Arena's Return to Kuala Lumpur
A year after selling out Mega Star Arena, Evolution Events Asia's hard techno festival returns with Italian duo 999999999 headlining The Arch Galeries on October 3.

BLAK is coming back for a second night, and this time the poster only needs one headliner. 999999999, the Italian duo whose hardware-only live sets have become one of hard techno's most reliable jump scares, top the bill at BLAK Arena on October 3, when Evolution Events Asia returns to Kuala Lumpur with the genre-specific festival it launched less than a year ago.
The Duo Nobody Wants to Follow
Ask anyone who has stood in a crowd for a 999999999 set what it sounds like and the answer usually involves the word "assault." The pair built their reputation on gear, not laptops, running hardware-only live shows built to overwhelm a room, and their 2018 track "300000003" turned into one of acid techno's genuine viral moments, repressed again and again as demand refused to slow down. They've played Awakenings, Fabric London, Fabrik Madrid and Boiler Room's Paris broadcast from inside the Possession rave, the kind of rap sheet that makes a promoter's decision easy. Booking them to headline a room this size in Southeast Asia is a statement about where Evolution Events Asia thinks the region's appetite for harder sounds is heading.
The rest of the bill leans hard into the same lane rather than softening it. AZYR, Exproz, Fatima Hajji, Fraw, Joshua Dillon, Klofama, Nikolina, Suhsi and Zatox round out a lineup built for one register: fast, industrial and unapologetic about it. There's no pop-adjacent name here to widen the audience. BLAK isn't trying to convert anyone who wasn't already looking for this.
From 5,500 People to a Second Night
The first BLAK wasn't a soft launch. On November 21, 2025, Evolution Events Asia filled Mega Star Arena with 5,500 people for a night built around industrial techno and raw hardstyle, headlined by Germany's Alignment and France's OMAKS, with Toxic Machinery, Vortek's, Anderex and Krowdexx filling out the international end and Malaysian DJs Mr. Yang, Tchuno and Ashley Lau carrying the local half. For a first edition of a niche-genre festival, in a market where hard techno nights usually cap out in the low hundreds, 5,500 is not a modest number. It's the kind of debut that makes a second edition inevitable rather than aspirational.
This time the venue changes. BLAK Arena moves to The Arch Galeries' XOX Arena, the same room that hosted TELETECH's Sara Landry-headlined Kuala Lumpur debut in September, and one of the city's go-to rooms whenever a promoter needs arena-scale capacity instead of a nightclub crowd. Trading arenas isn't a downgrade. It's a sign that Kuala Lumpur now has more than one room capable of hosting this kind of night, which matters more for the scene than any single lineup does.
A Portfolio, Not a One-Off
BLAK was never going to be Evolution Events Asia's only bet. The same promoter is behind Sanctuary, Malaysia's first home-grown trance festival, plus Verknipt Malaysia at home and Transmission Bangkok across the border. Stacked together, that's a company deliberately building a genre-by-genre festival portfolio rather than chasing one sound. Trance gets Sanctuary. Hard techno and hardstyle get BLAK. Each genre gets its own room, its own crowd and its own headliner budget instead of being squeezed onto a single multi-stage bill.
That approach only works if the crowd shows up twice, and Kuala Lumpur has already answered that question once. Whether 5,500 people turn into more on October 3 is the actual test BLAK Arena is running, not whether 999999999 can hold a room. That part was never in doubt.
