Lee Burridge doesn't rush a set. He's spent three decades teaching dance floors to wait for the payoff. On Saturday, November 7, he brings that patience to RASA Space, the club at Republic Plaza's Tower 1 in Raffles Place, for a show billed as his return to Singapore.

The show starts at 10 PM. It's 18+.

Thirty Years, One Sound

Burridge is a British DJ and producer, born in November 1968, who was influential in Hong Kong's underground club scene in the 1990s and helped establish the nightclub Neptune's there. He has been moving dance floors for more than three decades, and the story starts a long way from Hong Kong.

His DJ career began on 26 December 1983 at The New Inn, a bar owned and run by his parents in the Dorset village of Eype. With his father's help, he started a mobile DJ operation called Cutz and spent the next few years playing weddings, birthday parties and, by his own account, the occasional funeral, around the surrounding towns. A residency at a club called The Palace in Somerset followed, where fellow resident DJ Wayne Rideout taught him to mix, and where a group of visitors introduced him to London's emerging acid house sound in the summer of 1987.

In early 1991, a club owner from overseas offered him a job in Hong Kong, then still a British colony, and he moved to become a full-time DJ for the first time, at a club called Joe Banana's. He credits himself with bringing the UK's early rave parties to Hong Kong. In his final few years in Hong Kong, he often invited visiting DJs to play at the Big Apple and Neptune's. It was after one of those weekends that he became friends with Sasha and Craig Richards, who invited him to form the Tyrant Sound System once he returned to the UK. Back in London, he co-curated the Tyrant compilations with Richards on fabric's label and contributed to Global Underground's Nubreed series.

Then came the desert. His sunrise sets at Burning Man became the stuff of legend, and Coachella and Tomorrowland followed. All Day I Dream began in 2011, after a party at a rooftop in Brooklyn, and grew into the label and global movement that put a warmer, more emotive strain of melodic house on the map. An off-shoot label, All Day I Dream in Waves, followed in 2021. He recorded a new Essential Mix, his first since 2016. He's billed as one of the genre's most trusted storytellers.

The Room

Rasa Space's own pitch for the night says the room is built so "the DJ, the music and the dance floor feel like one." It's at 9 Raffles Place, inside Republic Plaza's Tower 1. For more on this side of house music, Loopliner has profiled Savaya Bali's organic house series.
