Moodymann Is Playing a Singapore Office Tower, and That's the Whole Story
Detroit house legend Kenny Dixon Jr. rarely tours Asia and famously does not do interviews. On August 22 he headlines RASA's new international booking series, in a hall a floor above a bank.

Kenny Dixon Jr. does not give interviews. He does not tour Asia often, either, and when Moodymann does leave Detroit it is usually for Panorama Bar or a festival main stage, not a rented hall above a bank in Singapore's financial district. On August 22, that is exactly where he is playing.

A Real Booking, Not a Stopover
Southeast Asia sees plenty of house and techno names passing through on the Ibiza-to-Australia run, playing a token Bangkok or Singapore date between bigger stops. Moodymann is not that kind of booking. The Mahogani Music and KDJ Records founder built his catalogue on sampled soul and unfiltered Detroit grit, and he has spent three decades being choosy about where he shows up. Landing him for a full Singapore headline set, backed by a real local support bill, is a coup most promoters in the region would not attempt.
The show is billed as Taman RASA 001, the first edition of a new international booking series from RASA, presented under Monkey Shoulder's Studio Monkey Shoulder LIVE, a month-long whisky-brand music initiative running across Singapore through August. Local veterans Bobby Obby Obby, Dean Chew, Daryl Knows, Ramesh and Suffyan open and close around him, which matters more than it sounds. A touring headliner surrounded by imported support is a party. One surrounded by the city's own selectors is a scene making a statement about itself.
The Room Behind It
RASA itself is worth the detour even without Moodymann's name on the poster. It opened in January 2025 on the second floor of Republic Plaza Tower 1, a five-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT, and its two rooms, Hall and Floor, were designed by Berlin's Studio Karhard, the firm behind Berghain and Kyiv's K41. That is a serious pedigree for a 6,000-square-foot room tucked into a CBD office tower, and it shows in the steel-mesh light fixture hanging over the oval bar and the floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the skyline. Co-founder Kavan Spruyt has called the space "a love letter to our Southeast Asian roots" rather than just another club, and on a normal Thursday or Friday the Floor room runs house and electronic sets that lean into '90s and early-2000s references before the theatrics kick in on weekends.

The Moodymann show itself moves off-site to Foochow Hall on Tyrwhitt Road, a converted two-storey function hall with more room to breathe than RASA's home venue, which tops out around 280 standing. Tickets start at S$82.73 through Tessera and are already being flagged as a sell-through risk given the name involved, so do not wait until the week of.
