Bandung's Peels Records & Bar Takes Its Sound to India for the First Time

Peels Records & Bar has never played a show outside Indonesia. That changes on October 14, when the Bandung record store, sound room and cocktail bar lands in Mumbai for the first stop of a three-city tour it's calling Night Train.

A Bandung Institution Goes on the Road

Peels opened in 2021 inside a restored Dutch colonial building in Bandung, part record shop, part sound room, part cocktail bar, built around the idea of a room where the music gets as much attention as the drinks list. Earlier this year it reopened after a renovation with local studio Nouv: more wood, a rebuilt stainless steel bar and DJ booth, and a light installation by artist Arin Sunaryo. The result, in the photos Peels has put out since, is warm and orange-lit, shelves of vinyl behind the bar instead of over it.

Bandung has quietly become one of Indonesia's steadier centers for record culture. Munir, also based in the city, has spent a decade splicing the country's lost disco records back together from damaged masters. Peels sits in that same lineage, minus the archival work: a room built to make listening the whole point of going out.

Night Train Pulls Into Three Cities

Night Train is Arcade Social Club's series for importing the atmosphere of a specific bar, not just a guest bartender or a drinks menu, for one night at a time. Its first edition, in March 2026, brought Singapore's Bar Bon Funk to Mumbai, Goa and Bengaluru. Peels is the second stop: Mumbai on October 14 at Nami, a new hi-fi bar in the city; Delhi on October 16 at Auro, one of the city's longer-running rooms; and Goa on October 17 at Juna. A merch drop tied to the tour lands October 13, with details to follow on Peels' Instagram.

Why India, Why Now

The connection runs through Singapore. Bar Bon Funk had already hosted an exchange with Peels, and Arcade Social Club's relationship with Bar Bon Funk from the first Night Train run is what put Peels on the list for the second. "The initial connection came through a tour that Arcade Social Club had previously done with Bar Bon Funk," Peels owner Fritz Yonathan told Mixmag Asia. "From there, things just developed naturally through existing friendships and connections."

It's Peels' first trip to India, and Yonathan isn't pretending otherwise. "We've actually never been to India before, so for us there's a lot of curiosity and excitement around this trip," he said. "It feels like India is at a really interesting point right now, with growing interest in the music, nightlife, food and hospitality coming from there."

No word yet on what Peels will actually play across the three nights, or on door prices at Nami, Auro and Juna. What's confirmed is the calendar: three dates, three cities, one Bandung bar carrying its record shelves a lot further than usual.
