A Local Booking, Not a World Tour Stop
While Resident Advisor's 25th anniversary world tour was busy skipping every Southeast Asian capital for a Taipei basement, Hanoi's Unmute went ahead and booked one of the region's most respected techno DJs anyway. This Friday, August 28, Diskonnected headlines Cuốn Club, the fourth-floor room inside Unmute's warehouse space in a 24-hour fruit and vegetable market on the edge of the city.
No festival press release. No RA news post. Just a local promoter with a good sound system and a lineup worth showing up for.
Who Is Diskonnected
Diskonnected is a Taiwan-based techno DJ and producer affiliated with Smoke Machine, the Taipei label and event series that has spent the last decade quietly building one of East Asia's most consistent techno rosters. His sets favor stripped-back, hypnotic rhythm over big-room drops, the kind of DJing that rewards a proper club system rather than a festival PA. He closed the first night of Organik Festival in 2018, a set later released as episode 126 of the Smoke Machine Podcast, embedded below.
Cuốn Club, the Room Built for This

Unmute was founded by Lam Dao, with Jiro Endo curating the architecture. The venue holds up to 300 people across two rooms: Cuốn Club on the fourth floor, built for exactly this kind of DJ-focused, low-light techno night, and Tan Bar two floors up for something looser. It's the same building, and the same crew, behind the market-warehouse setup that's made Unmute the most talked-about newer room in Hanoi's house and techno scene.
Booking Diskonnected is a statement about where that room wants to sit: closer to Smoke Machine's Taipei circuit than to the vinahouse mainstream, and willing to pay for a name most of the crowd will only know from Discogs or a podcast feed.
Why This Matters More Than It Looks
It's easy to read RA choosing Taipei's Pawnshop over Bangkok, Manila or Hanoi for its anniversary tour as proof Southeast Asia doesn't have the infrastructure yet. Unmute booking a Smoke Machine-affiliated headliner on a normal Friday, with no anniversary hype and no international press cycle, is the quieter counter-argument: the scene doesn't need RA's blessing to bring in serious international talent. It just needs a promoter willing to take the booking risk on a Tuesday-to-Friday timeline instead of a festival calendar.
