Carl Cox Is Closing CÉ LA VI Singapore's Race Week. He'll Bring a Days-Old Remix With Him.

CÉ LA VI Singapore's rooftop Club Lounge sits high enough over Marina Bay Sands that the F1 grandstands look like a toy track from up there. On October 11, the man closing that room out has been doing this since before most of the crowd's parents met: Carl Cox, techno's most durable showman, headlining the finale of the club's Race Week programme.

Three Nights, One Rooftop

CÉ LA VI has built Race Week into a three-night run rather than a single party. Thursday, October 8 opens with a Kick-Off Party soundtracked by Sgamo, the Italy-raised, globally-based selector currently mid-way through a seven-week Asia and Australia run. Saturday, October 10 hands the decks to Caiiro and Da Capo for a five-hour back-to-back, Caiiro's Afro-Tech against Da Capo's Afro House and Deep Tech, a combination that has quietly become one of the most bookable sounds on the region's rooftop circuit this year.

Then Sunday: Lights Out. Kim Turnbull opens, Jeremy Healy follows, and Cox closes, 10pm till late, with the Marina Bay Street Circuit lit up below the glass.

A Career That Doesn't Need the Introduction

Cox has been at this since the UK's acid house years, and he spent fifteen of those years as the resident who defined Space Ibiza before the club closed. He doesn't play Southeast Asia often, which is exactly why a club will pay to fly him in for one night rather than book a resident for the whole week; the scarcity is the point. What he plays is less predictable than his reputation suggests, three-deck rides through house, techno and the odd curveball, but there's a strong chance the room hears something that dropped days before he landed.

The Release Worth Watching For

That something is Cox's remix of Vikthor & Pianoalani's 'Legacy', released on Intec just days before the Singapore date. It's a rework, not a Cox original, but it's freshly out on his own label imprint and squarely the kind of rolling, peak-time techno he builds a closing set around. If you're going for the music rather than the view, this is the track to listen for.

The Third Big Race Week Booking, and the Biggest Name Yet

CÉ LA VI isn't the only Singapore room chasing the F1 crowd this year. Marquee booked Martin Garrix, Diplo and Anyma for the same weekend, and Zouk brought in Argy for a melodic techno night the weekend before. Of the three, Cox is the only one with a genuine claim to having shaped the genre rather than just filled a festival slot in it, and CÉ LA VI is betting that matters more to a rooftop crowd than another EDM headliner would.
