DJ Hydra Returns to Hong Kong's Soho House on October 17

Hydra heads back to Hong Kong on October 17, after a debut show in Ibiza, to headline Hydra's House at Soho House. Press has called him a rising force in Afro house, and the Nigerian artist isn't a stranger to this particular city: he took up a residency at The Trilogy in Hong Kong in 2025.

From a Limited Release to a Burning Man Rotation Slot

Hydra's rise is recent. His limited-release debut track, 'Like House,' hit 10,000 streams in under two months, got picked up by UK label OVAVA Music, and landed on rotation at Burning Man. OVAVA, run by DJ and producer Ollie Mundy, signed two of Hydra's tracks after hearing his early demos. "It has to be when OVAVA signed my debut tracks 'Like House' and 'Moyo Wa Upendo,'" Hydra says. "That's when I realised my career was starting to get some international attention." Since then, Hydra's been featured in Ibiza Music Charts and Beatportal, and recorded guest mixes for Select Radio in London. He names Black Coffee and Keinemusik as reference points. "There's just something really exciting about mixing African rhythms and modern electronic textures," he says. "It creates a unique style of music." Of his influences, he adds: "Black Coffee and Keinemusik have constantly pushed and evolved the dance music scene. They've created distinct sounds and it's inspiring to see." More singles through OVAVA are already lined up behind 'Like House'. Beatportal summed up Hydra's 2025 as "full of chart-topping releases, global DJ support, and a new residency in Hong Kong."

Suru Records and 'Bamidele'

Hydra also runs his own label, Suru Records. Its debut release, 'Bamidele,' Yoruba for "follow me home," is a personal record for Hydra: a return to roots and identity. 'Bamidele' reached number five on the Traxsource Afro House chart and entered the platform's main Top 10, a strong debut for a label still finding its feet.

What to Expect at Soho House

Hydra calls Hydra's House his own playground. "I've curated this place for you to feel my insanity, my genius, my energy, and I hope that you find moments of joy, beauty and love as the night progresses," he said. The event description promises "a hypnotic fusion of African rhythms and electronic textures, groovy, melodic, and deeply emotional."
