There are festivals that happen in a field. And then there is Extrema Outdoor Belgium, which happens beside a lake, inside a forest, across seven stages they call Districts, in a part of Belgium that makes the whole thing feel less like a festival and more like something you planned a trip around. Set by the water's edge of De Plas, this year's edition reflects what has shaped the festival for over a decade: precise curation, a commitment to discovery, and a setting that remains unmatched. That is not a marketing line. Anyone who has been will tell you the same thing without being asked.

XOBE, as it is widely known, pulls in around 65,000 fans and features over 100 artists across seven stages. It runs May 22 to 24 over the Pentecost bank holiday weekend in Belgium, which means three full days of music with no work Monday to ruin the ending. That alone is reason enough to go.

The party starts here and does not stop until Sunday. Extrema Outdoor Belgium, May 22 to 24.

What makes this festival different from everything else in Europe

The honest answer is the location. This festival has earned its reputation as one of the most atmospheric events in the Benelux region, prioritizing a sophisticated blend of underground techno, deep house, and melodic electronica. With the beautiful lake as its centrepiece, the festival creates a unique setting where natural beauty and industrial stage design merge for an unforgettable three-day experience.

The grounds are divided into multiple Districts, each with a distinct identity, ranging from intimate forest clearings to massive open-air stages on the water's edge. You can go from dancing on a beach at sunset to losing yourself inside a dark forest stage at 3am and both experiences are happening simultaneously at the same festival. Very few events pull that off without one of them feeling like an afterthought.

The house music names you need to pay attention to

The 2026 lineup is genuinely one of the stronger ones XOBE has put together, and the house music side of it is particularly well stocked. Here are the names worth knowing:

  • Joris Voorn and Nic Fanciulli performing a back to back set on Friday, two artists who together cover a wide sweep of melodic and deep house territory and whose chemistry in a B2B setting is well established on the European circuit.
  • Nora En Pure, whose signature deep and atmospheric approach to house is one of the most distinctive sounds in the genre right now.
  • Âme DJ back to back with Jimi Jules, one of the most forward-thinking house pairings you will find anywhere on a festival lineup this summer.
  • Claptone and Sonny Fodera closing out Sunday with warm and upbeat grooves that bring a clear Ibiza influence to the Belgian lakeside.
  • Colyn and HI-LO, both of whom operate at the intersection of melodic house and peak-time dancefloor energy in ways that hold up across very different crowd sizes.
  • Interplanetary Criminal and Franky Wah, two of the most talked about names in UK house right now, both making their mark on a lineup that extends well beyond Europe's usual circuit.
  • Marco Carola leading the Sunday charge alongside a lineup that reflects the Amnesia Ibiza partnership XOBE has built into this year's programming.

The campsite situation

This is where Extrema genuinely separates itself from a lot of comparable European festivals. Campsite access opens Thursday at 4pm, and camping guests get exclusive access to private afterparties on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights after the main stages close. That means the festival is not three days. For anyone camping it is effectively four, with a pre-party Thursday before the music even officially begins and a series of late nights that continue well after the last set ends. The campsite is not a place you sleep between sets. It is part of the event.

Beyond the music, Extrema is celebrated for its high-end culinary offerings and meticulous attention to detail, making it a total sensory experience in the heart of the Belgian province of Limburg. The food situation at European festivals is often an afterthought. At XOBE it is not.

Two weeks away

Its central location in Limburg makes it easily accessible from the Netherlands, Germany, and across Belgium. If you are anywhere in that part of Europe and you do not have plans for the Pentecost weekend yet, this is the clearest possible answer to that problem.

Four days if you camp. Three if you don't. Either way you're not sleeping much.
