Thugshop Closed Its 10-Year Singapore Club in May. Its Replacement Just Booked a Berghain Regular.
Six weeks after shutting Headquarters, the crew reopened one unit over as Exit Reality. On Saturday it hosts Paula Koski's Singapore debut, in a party series with Hanoi's Unmute that predates the closure by two years.

Paula Koski has played Berghain and Bassiani. On Saturday she's playing a 100-capacity room in a Boat Quay shophouse that didn't exist two months ago.
The room is called Exit Reality, and it belongs to Thugshop, the Singapore crew that spent a decade running Headquarters two doors down before closing it on May 30. HQ had been a fixture of the Boat Quay circuit since 2016: a caged DJ booth and red light downstairs for techno, a house and disco floor with a skyline patio upstairs. When it shut, our own guide to Singapore's clubs used the closure as its opening line, because a decade-old room going dark is the kind of thing that reshapes a scene's map.
Six weeks later, on July 17, Thugshop reopened at 66B Boat Quay, literally next door to HQ's old address at 66A. Exit Reality is smaller and tighter: one 100-capacity room built around a Funktion-One rig, a hypnotic overhead grid of geometric LED panels by the outfit Layers of Time, and a terrace looking out over the Singapore River and Marina Bay Sands. The branding, all glitchy exit-sign iconography, comes from Foka Wolf, a British artist better known for subvertising and political satire than club graphics. "The moment you cross the threshold, the real world ceases to exist," is how Thugshop describes it. "Inside, you exit reality, and only when you leave do you re-enter the chaos of the real world." Fine, it's a lot for a shophouse basement. It's also, six weeks out from the old room's last night, a fast turnaround for a crew that could easily have taken a year off.

A Series Older Than the New Room
Saturday's party is billed as Thugshop x Unmute presents Never Tooo Loud, with Koski headlining alongside 3MZY and newcomer KKantra. Koski is Finnish-born and Berlin-based, and the Singapore date is her first in the city. She's built a reputation on releases for Soma Records, sets at Berghain and Tbilisi's Bassiani, and her own INTERLINK series back in Helsinki; the promoters call her sound "dark, polished and razor sharp," which tracks with a DJ who came up as a music journalist before she came up behind decks.
Never Tooo Loud isn't a new idea dreamed up for the reopening. Thugshop has run it with Unmute, the Hanoi collective, since at least May 2024, when an edition with the Japan-based DJ OCCA and local selector Vaibs played out at the old HQ. That means the partnership survived the room it was built in: the venue changed addresses, the party name didn't. It's a small detail, but it says something about how these cross-border bookings actually work in this region, less about a single flashy night than a relationship between two crews, in two cities, that keeps showing up on both sides of the South China Sea. Whether Exit Reality can hold the room Headquarters built over ten years is a longer question than one booking can answer. But a Berghain-and-Bassiani name making her Singapore debut, six weeks into a brand-new venue's life, isn't a bad way to start answering it.
