Cova Is Running Manila's House and Techno Scene Four Nights a Week
Cova, Manila's pioneering micro-club, runs resident nights Hump, Cherish the Night and Moan plus rotating Saturday sets.
Cova is Manila's pioneering micro-club.
James McCranie, an OG DJ, is the brainchild of Cova. Programming director Pauly took it from there, starting with Saturdays split among four resident crews: Deep Groove Collective, Sonic Ulam, Medusa and Cherish Manila. From there it expanded to Hump on Wednesdays, Cherish the Night on Thursdays and Moan on Fridays. Occasional specials run under the names Bliss and Opodisco.
A Year In, Still Small on Purpose
By its first anniversary, on May 23, 2025, Cova had become the room other Manila promoters pointed to when they wanted to explain what "underground" still meant in a city where the biggest venues increasingly book interchangeable touring bills. "Cova started last year as a passion project to home the underground (House/Techno) sound," Pauly said, marking the date. The anniversary lineup ran deep into the local roster rather than reaching for an import: Herb Cabral, Ed Croix, BBSTEVE, O.K Hara, Adri Malaki, MUk and Randy Salvador, with Pauly himself behind the decks.
Visiting DJs Keep Finding It
International names have played there anyway. Marco Effie and Elodie have both taken turns in Cova's booth, proof the room's reputation travels faster than its square footage suggests. In April 2025, DJ John Odin used the space for an eight-hour "All Night Long" set that moved through progressive, techno, trance, hard techno and psytrance without a break, telling the crowd beforehand that he wanted to "share this whole musical journey with his Manila crew, from the first track to the very last." It's the kind of booking a venue with a bar to turn over and a door to clear rarely has the patience for.

Part of a Wider Shift
Cova isn't the only bet on small rooms Manila has made. The city's house and techno scene has built a run of boutique crews working the same end of the market without needing a venue of their own. Very Done throws packed parties across Manila's bars, clubs and the odd central-business-district warehouse. PLEASE, newer to Poblacion, curates weekly house, tech house and disco nights around residents Beach Please and Mike Reefer. Loopliner's own guide to Manila's house and techno clubs covers the bigger rooms in that ecosystem; UNKNWN, the party that turned ten by outlasting half the clubs that hosted it, is the closest thing the city has to Cova's elder.

Neither crew needs Cova's address to draw a room, which fits the pattern: Manila's house and techno scene lost clubs like XX:XX, TIME, Today x FUTURE and Pineapple Lab and kept going anyway, spreading across small rooms and resident nights instead of rebuilding around one flagship venue. It now spreads across a handful of small, overlapping rooms and resident nights, and Cova happens to be the one that put a name, a weekly schedule and a neon-green logo on the format first.
For now, the schedule is the pitch: Wednesday through Saturday, same small room, whichever resident's turn it is.
